Bye bye summer! Hello fall!

Hello guys!
It has recently been pretty chilly in the mornings here where I live…and it’s an unwanted reminder that fall is coming soon. I do enjoy fall, but I love the warmth of summers and the longer days :T. I do have crispy scents and cute fall fashion to look forward to I guess. But before summer is really really over, I wanted to share with you guys my top favorite blushes I wore this year during the summer.

usmmer blush

Top L to R: Benefit’s Bella Bamba and Physician’s Formula Glow and Mood boosting blush in Warm

Bottom L to R: Tarte Blissful and Mac Royal Sunset

summer blush 1

L to R: Mac’s Royal Sunset, PF’s Warm, Tarte’s Blissful, and Benefit’s Bella Bamba

1st pick: Mac Royal Sunset: this color has been my absolute go-to for blush this summer. Though it looks unflattering on my skintone in a swatch, on my cheeks they make me look glowy. The way it naturally flushes my cheeks makes me think I’ve gone out in the sun. Since it’s a bit light for my skintone however, I do have to apply it twice for it to really show up on my skin. But even when it does the color and the application of it makes it look so natural that I love it since orange-corally color can be unnatural looking if it’s too pigmented on the cheeks. The blush is finely milled and has a slight sheen when applied to the cheeks. My one Mac blush I own and I love it! Lasts a decent amount of time: 6 hours

2nd pick: Benefit’s bella bamba. I love the sparkle it gives to my cheeks; it’s the only Benefit blush that’ll actually show up on my skintone. This was my go-to color for my cheeks in the summer last year. The watermelon-y or grapefruit like color of this blush automatically makes me think of summer and so I grab for it more often when it’s warm and sunshiny. lasts around 6 hours

3rd pick: Tarte’s Blissful

Tarte blushes are so trusty since they’re so finely milled and pigmented that they blend into the skin so easily. As you can even see in the swatch, Tarte’s blush glides onto my skin the best. I love this orangey coral matte blush for the summer. (I love orange coral blush for summer in general). This blush has the longest staying power:  6-8 hours. The only thing I need to be careful about with this blush is that since it’s pigmented I need to make sure I apply it in good lighting.

4th pick: PF’s Warm blush

This is a recent buy for me, and so maybe I haven’t used it that often. But when I do I do love the orange coral color with the tiny bits of sparkle (very tiny). Gives a nice glowy sheen to my cheeks. 6 hours of wear. Love the blush design (hearts with different colors). I think this may be one of my favorite drug store blushes. I definitely like this better than PF’s blush in Pink.

Edit!: I tried the PF’s warm blush again the other day and I found it to be actually very long lasting. I would say it’s a great dupe for the Tarte blush except PF’s Warm is shimmery whereas Tarte’s Blissful is matte. Also I do feel like Tarte blends slighly better since it really infuses into the skin since it’s so finely milled. But otherwise I would say PF’s seriously one of my favorite drugstore blushes!

Besides Royal Sunset, the rest of the blushes are permanent and available in either drugstores or Sephora/Ulta. And now I need to find some good blushes for the fall. Hope this helped!

Vested Interest Essie Fall 2013

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while since I’ve written here…partly due to the fact that I had a stomach flu. Apologies! Today I wanted to feature an exciting nail polish collection…Essie’s Fall Nail Collection 2013 For the Twill of It

I bought two of the colors and today I will be featuring the color Vested Interest. On the bottle it looks as if it’ll be a darker dull teal but on my nails it looks more dark blue green. It’s a cream finish and it looks gorgeous with two coats.

vested interest

My top coat is what messed up my nails a little bit. I’m halfway on my sally hansen insta dry topcoat and it’s all goopy and hard to use! I was annoyed and purchased Revlon Top Coat instead. Hopefully it’ll work better.

Anyways back to the Essie nail polish. I absolutely love the application…so easy and the color has no streaks in two coats.

vestedinterest

I think I’m currently attracted to these dark or dull teal colors since it’s the main color theme in my apartment. I like how it makes my hands look fairer.

The only thing I don’t like is the color on the bottle wasn’t true to the color you see on the nails. Otherwise one of the best Essie nail polish formulation and color I have. Love!

Sick

I have been sick all day. Can’t keep anything down :(. I feel like I have all the symptoms for viral gastritis…which sucks because there’s nothing you can do about it

I am a mess. Lord can you pick me up?

Today was a happy and horrible day at the same time. I got elected to be a Gold College Rep yet I was 2 minutes late to a class and now apparently I will get an unexcused tardiness on my academic record.

This song I sang at KFPC came into my head:

Even though I walk through the valley
Of the shadow of death
Your perfect love is casting out fear
And even when I’m caught in the middle
Of the storm of this life
I won’t turn back I know you are near
And I will fear no e—-vil
For my God is wi—-th me
And if my God is wi—-th me
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You’ll never let go of me
And I can see a light that is coming
For the heart that hold on
A glorious light beyond all compare
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
We’ll live to know You here on the earth
And I will fear no e—-vil
For my God is wi—-th me
And if my Go is wi—-th me
Whom then shall I fear
Whom then shall I fear
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You’ll never let go of me
You keep on loving
And You never let go
Singing, Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You’ll never let go of me
Yes, I can see a light
For the heart that holds on
And there will be as end to these troubles
But until that days comes
Still I will praise You, Still I will praise You
I can see a light
Yes, I can see a light
For the heart that holds on
And there will be as end to these troubles
But until that days comes
Still I will praise You, Still I will praise You
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You’ll never let go of me
So strong
So wise
So loving Lord
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You’ll never let go of me
Oh, Lord, You’ll never let go of me

Ooh also I highly recommend you check out my friend’s wordpress cowboychupete.

Requoted from cowboy chupete’s wordpress:

“Being tender and open is beautiful. As a woman, I feel continually shhh’ed. Too sensitive. Too mushy. Too wishy washy. Blah blah. Don’t let someone steal your tenderness. Don’t allow the coldness and fear of others to tarnish your perfectly vulnerable beating heart. Nothing is more powerful than allowing yourself to truly be affected by things. Whether it’s a song, a stranger, a mountain, a rain drop, a tea kettle, an article, a sentence, a footstep, feel it all – look around you. All of this is for you. Take it and have gratitude. Give it and feel love.”

Thanks Mel! What a beautiful quote.

Studying Day in and Day Out

I was so tired the other day that I picked up my razor to wash my face instead of my face cleansing brush. What would have happened if I actually used it against my cheeks? O.O

I haven’t forgotten to post here just wanted to say hi! 🙂

Holy Grail

So this has been the end of two weeks of real medical school…and I hate to say it but I’m real nervous. We take these quizzes called “formatives” which is supposed to test us to see whether we learned that week’s material. Sadly I haven’t been doing so well. The first one I don’t mind since I didn’t study for it at all. Second week the problem for me has been that I’ve been juggling to take notes in evernote, growly, quizlet, cmap tools, ppt, and word documents. There’s so many programs out there that I don’t know which one is best for me! And it’s hard too because I feel like one program might be good for one subject but I feel like the other program is good for the other subject. Anyways half of my time I’m struggling trying to organize my notes into all these different things that I don’t feel like I learned anything. I learned from a peer how to work on Growly today so crossing fingers that I’ll be much more prepared for next week.

Besides med school (which has been a big chunk of my time/life), I wanted to do another quick beauty post about my holy grail (HG) products. Products become holy grail when:

1) The product works so well for me that I don’t find a need to purchase several products of the same category. (i.e. I don’t have to buy multiple eyebrow products) OR

2) Despite having several products in one category, I tend to gravitate to one product. OR

3) I can’t find anything else quite like it and I enjoy using it alot.

holy grail

L to R: Aveeno tinted moisturizer, Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous Foundation, Revlon Photoready concealer, Maybelline instant age rewind eraser dark circles, Clinique brow shaper, NYX slide-on pencil, and Wet n Wild primer.

I’m sure you’ve seen me talk about all of these products so I won’t go into great detail. These are the categories in beauty that I feel like is boring to purchase so I usually stick to one product unless I don’t like it. I went through a phase of trying BB creams, foundations high and low end, etc. but now that I’ve found the one that works best for me…I have ceased to care about other foundations. The same for the rest of them…even if I had other products within the same category they’re hiding in my stash somewhere cus I don’t really use them anymore. I’ve wasted so much money on purchasing cream eyeliners (refer to my eyeliners I won’t repurchase post) that I’m finally glad I’ve found one that’s right for me…and I’m gonna stick to it. These products are in my everyday makeup stash.

As you can see I tend to use the same thing for my face foundation because if a product doesn’t break me out and I adore the finish, lasting power, etc of it then I just stick to it. I’m afraid of breakouts so I don’t venture out that often in these products. In this way I feel like the face products in the picture above are also HG because there is nothing quite like it for my face.

This is unlike the following categories: blush, bronzer, eyeshadow, liquid liner, highlighter, etc. These products I tend to buy several of them since each can give different finishes, colors, textures, etc to my face. And these you may see more often in my monthly favorites (which I want to do). But if I never show foundation, concealer, brow, eye primer, etc in my monthly favorites it’s probably because I’m using these all the time. If I ever do try other things that replace my HG I will definitely let you know.

Edit: I realize I never talked about why I did end up liking the Clinique brow shaper. It doesn’t take alot of powder to fill in my eyebrows and yet it gives  a soft, natural look to my eyebrows. Lasts a decent amount of time without any brow gel. 🙂 At first I just had issues with it because you gotta rub the powder a little vigorously at first to break into the powder. I don’t have to rub vigorously anymore though after that first time.

Essie Ballet Slippers- Thumbs Down

Hello everyone! This past week was the first real week of medical school. The amount of information we are given is much more than I’ve ever had in college…and I heard it only gets worse. Let’s hope I can keep up with my workload. If it gets worse I probably will need to stop this blog and continue maybe using this as a journal? To process what I’m learning in med school…and to relieve some stress. But for now I present to you more beauty material!

So in my inspiration to do this review was because of medical school actually. Now that I have clinical sessions every week we are not allowed to wear colored nail polish :(. I guess I’ll have to use most of my nail polish on my toes…>.<.

Anyways this week, I decided to wear Ballet Slipper this week since it’s a neutral color. Boy it was a mistake! I forgot how streaky this color was! :O

balletslippers

Only with three coats was this nail polish wearable…otherwise the streaks were very very visible and quite awful to see.

balletslippersswatch

I think the color looks all right on my skin tone…in some lighting it doesn’t look the most flattering look but in general it gives my hands a nice tanned and clean look. . I would describe the color milky white with maybe a slight hint of pink. The color is true to the bottle. However, you have to be REALLY careful applying this nail polish. The formula is so thin it’s hard to apply without streaking. I would not recommend this polish to anyone, and I don’t even know what to do with this one I have since I don’t like it.

EDIT: I am editing this at 3/22/2014. I realize that although 3 coats is the minimum amount you need to make this polish look good on the nails, I now give this product a THUMBS UP. I do love how the color makes my hands look clean and polished. The color matches with any outfit. Additionally even without a top coat this nail polish lasts FOREVER on the nails with three coats. For this reason I change my mind and I think I may continue using this more and more!
